§ 3-55. Running at large.

  • (a)

    It shall be unlawful for any owner of a dog to allow it to be off the premises of the owner unless such pet is wearing a collar with a rabies tag and a dog tax tag. If any dog leaves the premises of the owner, it must be on a leash and under physical restraint.

    (b)

    Violation of this section may subject the offender to penalties or fines. The civil penalties have been established to cover the cost of enforcement of this section in accordance with section 1-15 of this Code.

    The civil penalty shall be as published in the fee schedule adopted by the board of commissioners and modified from time to time. If appropriate, the offender shall also be responsible for the cost to repair or replace any damaged property that may be incurred as a result of a violation of this section, said cost being added to the penalty.
