§ 3-32. Same—Powers and duties.

  • (a)

    The animal control officer shall have the power of arrest and be responsible for the enforcement within the city of all state laws and local ordinances pertaining to the ownership and control of all animals and shall cooperate with all other law enforcement officers operating within the county in fulfilling this responsibility.

    (b)

    The animal control officer shall implement and enforce the provisions of the state rabies law and the dog warden law including but not limited to the following activities:

    (1)

    Collect and impound stray animals;

    (2)

    Canvass area of the city for vaccination and tax listing of animals;

    (3)

    Assist licensed veterinarians in conducting all quarterly rabies clinics sponsored by the health department within the county;

    (4)

    Investigate animal bite cases and either confine or arrange for confinement of the biting animal for a ten-day observation period.
